Statistical look at the players available in the 2024 men's Hundred draft

These are the records of a selection of batters available in the Hundred draft since January 2022, in all T20 cricket. I have picked three players who haven't been picked up (highlighted in green) who I think could be good options to pick up that haven't played in the Hundred before. For the runs category, I have only included the lower scorers to show a small sample size.

Grant Stewart is my first selection. I removed data from his performances for Italy as I thought they may skew his data compared to other players but he strikes at 175.58 in the last two years of Blast cricket and could be a useful addition for a team as a batting finisher. Whilst his balls per dismissal rate is on the lower side in the sample, this is quite common for a player in his role to have and it shouldn't be a barrier to signing him. I could also have included him in the bowling category, taking 38 wickets in the last two years. Whilst he has been a touch expensive, the bowling average and strike rate are both very good.

Sean Dickson is my second selection. Whilst there is a small selection of data with only 263 runs, his record in the middle order has been good, producing a half century during the T20 final last year on a pitch others struggled to get going on.

Whilst Graham Clark has been picked up before as a replacement player, he didn't get a chance to play. The opener has been a fine player for Durham in recent years on a ground where high scores are not common which only adds to his appeal. Competition for opener slots in the English game is fierce, but teams could do a lot worse than going for somebody with Clark's pedigree.

I've done a similar thing with the bowlers as the batters, picking three bowlers in green and using the same key (with the number of wickets showing small sample size).

I've always been a bit confused why Tom Smith has never been signed in the Hundred and hopefully he will be tomorrow. His numbers are outstanding and whilst there are a good amount of left arm spinners in county cricket, Smith's record tops most of them.

There aren't too many seamers left in the draft with outstanding records who haven't played in it before but one potential option is Josh Davey. Davey has been a consistent performer for Somerset for years in all formats and his record has been pretty good in the last couple of years, bearing in mind he plays his home games at Taunton where the ground is one of the best for batting in the country.

If teams are looking for a left arm wrist spinner for variety, Freddie Heldreich could be the man to concentrate on. His record has been quite good in the last two years and at just 22, there is plenty of time for him to develop.
